You Cant Break Water explores the aftermath of sexual violence through a series of poignant photos. Each photograph evokes the pain and loneliness of a sexual assault survivor while exploring paths of healing that make sense for the African mind and body.

“My work as a photographer is predicated on using art as a means of elevating and highlighting pertinent issues around social justice and human rights, You Can’t Break Water falls within that mission. As a survivor of sexual violence, working to break the silence around this form of violence through my lens and art is a powerful opportunity.” - Jasmine Kumalah, photographer
